Skittles Report 2010
Purton Evening Wi skittles team are an enthusiastic group with 16 members. We meet regularly once a month to play and practise among ourselves and take part in the Federation league each year. This year, having played Home and Away matches against Bishopstone, Greenmeadow and Haydon Wick A and B teams, we find ourselves with the highest score in our group, having only lost one match and through to the ¼ finals on May 5th.
We have adopted one members’s grandson to “pick up” for us when we play, to save our backs and at practice games he often becomes one of the team.
Recently we tried our hands at Ten Pin Bowling for a change, this turned out to be a most enjoyable evening. At least the ball couldn’t roll between the skittles and refuse to knock them down!
We look forward to our annual dinner in May- usually a very jolly evening. Anyone who wishes to join our group please contact Maureen Quincey or Chris Sheppard.
Good luck to the 7 members who will play in the ¼ finals and who knows we may even reach the semi-finals, but whatever the outcome we have a lot of fun together throughout the year.
Maureen Quincey has been captain for the last three years and now wishes to step down after working very hard. It hasn’t been easy, with cancelled and re-arranged matches, also being let down by venues on several occasions. Maureen has enjoyed her three years and is now looking forward to handing over to a new captain this Summer.
