Skittles Report 2010/11

Purton Evening WI skittles team are an enthusiastic group with about 16 members. We meet regularly once a month , normally the 2nd Tuesday in the month at the Red House, Purton, to play and practise among ourselves, as well as taking part in the Federation league each year.

May 2011 Quarter final

We were very successful in winning our group this year and were invited to the quarter finals at Seend on May 4th. We played Shrewton and were very fortunate to win our match 5 legs to 1.

Semi final and final May 18th at Seend

We arrived at Seend by 7 p.m. and in the semi final our group played Staverton. Again we had an excellent win of 5 legs to one and were excited to make it through to the final.

In the final we played Buston & Clyffe Pypard. The match was very close all the way through and this made an excellent final. After drawing the match we had to play another leg to determine the winner.

This was extremely close and certainly nail biting.

It was an amazing game and Miriam was the last person to play, what pressure for her! She came up trumps and beat the opposition by 2 points!

The team were presented with a lovely engraved glass each.

Gladys worked really hard all evening ‘sticking up’ for us, also Jean was our score keeper and did a splendid job, keeping us on task.

Another great result, Sylvie had the highest score throughout the final and will receive a shield at the Autumn Council meeting in Salisbury. This is a new memorial shield and to achieve this as well as winning the final was fantastic.

We need to remember, we started playing in the league last September and all our other skittles members helped us to achieve this great result by winning most of our group matches throughout the last 9 months.

We look forward to celebrating all together at our annual meal next month.
